Cheyanne McCartney is one of the most accomplished breakaway ropers in the game. A second-generation roper from Louisiana who learned the trade from her dad, she has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals of Breakaway Roping five times and was crowned the 2023 NFBR Average Champion — roping nine of ten calves in 32.2 seconds to cap a season that put her ninth in the WPRA World Standings with more than $111,000 won.
Her résumé runs deep. She won more money than any roper at the 2022 NFBR, has taken marquee rodeos like the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo and the American Royal, won the Riata Buckle, and claimed a share of Kid Rock's Rock N Rodeo. In 2025 she ranked seventh in the world with more than $127,000 won, and in April 2026 she swept all three rounds for $61,967 in a single day at the Old West Futurities' Gamble in Guthrie. She and her husband, Cody, run their roping and rope horse program out of Kingston, Oklahoma.
As an advisor, Cheyanne helps ropers and trainers with the part of the career that happens off the back of a horse: planning a rodeo path that actually gets you to the top, landing and keeping the sponsors that fund it, and handling customers and your reputation like a professional. She has lived every version of it — the futurities, the rodeo road, the sponsor row — and she's candid about what works.
She also gives in-person breakaway lessons and is exceptional with youth ropers coming up in the sport.
“I can't think of two better people you'd want as mentors for your children than Cody and Cheyanne.” — Melanie Smith, Founder, Solo Select Advisory
